BENJAMIN ZEPHANIAH DAY AT BRUNEL UNIVERSITY

Benjamin Zephaniah, poet, writer, activist, Brunel University, UK

The first official Benjamin Zephaniah Day was held in April 2025 at Brunel University of London, to celebrate the life and work of the late poet, musician, and activist. Hosted by his wife, Qian Zephaniah, and Brunel University, where Benjamin held the position of Professor in Creative Writing for over a decade, the ‘festival of rhythm, unity, and revolution’ was a celebratory tribute to the late, great ‘people’s poet’. Alongside performances from poets and writers including Linton Kwesi Johnson and Michael Rosen, as well as Brunel students, there was music, tai chi, drumming, poetry workshops, community sessions (funded by Arts Council England), and vegan street food.
